He moved to the Morgan Stanley Utility Group in 1985 as the senior investment banker for the natural gas industry. He joined Bear Stearns as head of the Energy Group in 1988.

Over his career he has been responsible for initiating, successfully structuring and negotiating numerous merger, acquisition and divestiture assignments for oil and gas companies, natural gas pipeline and distribution companies and electric utilities. He has arranged numerous offerings of debt, preferred, common stock and convertible securities for the full range of energy clients. He has also been responsible for successfully launching several new products in the U.S. capital markets including Credit Sensitive Notes (Enron), Spread Protected Debt Securities (Transco) and LIBOR based Floating Rate Medium Term Notes (Ford Motor Credit).
